Strategic Planning for the CED Practitioner Workshop

Through strategic planning, an organization can envision a desired future and realistically assess present opportunities and constraints. Then an organization can determine what must be done to bridge the gap from current reality to envisioned future.

This 3-day Workshop is based closely on the Strategic Planning for the Community Economic Development Practitioner, and is designed for

  • board and staff of any one community organization needing a strategic planning process
  • representatives of a number of organizations from a region
  • government staff with extension responsibilities (e.g., field officers)

Its purpose is to guide 10-40 participants through the strategic planning process, draft a strategic plan, and apply it to a hypothetical small community. During the workshop, participants will also experience processes and dynamics that help build a community team.

By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to:

  • develop and express an organization/community vision
  • develop and write a clear, concise mission statement
  • participate effectively in a situation analysis
  • select appropriate strategies
  • establish strategic goals
  • develop and draft objectives for operational planning
